Silent Echoes

12 August 2025

Inspired by Orford Ness, the UK’s only site of atomic experimentation, this exhibition explores the hidden histories and lingering memories within its landscape.

Homma’s technique involves using invisible ink and fire to etch images into paper, leaving behind burn marks that uncover secrets. This method, traditionally used in espionage, reflects the artist’s exploration of the complex and often overlooked narratives relating to Orford Ness.

“Silent Echoes” also features a video installation revealing the secret of invisible ink and also hidden narratives told by a local historian, Alan Mackley, it encourages reflection on the past and its ongoing impact on the present, inviting audiences to listen to the silent reverberations that still echoes through the land.
